Each winter, we taste through every barrel of Cabernet Sauvignon from the vintage just concluded, and set aside those we feel represent the purest expression of our remarkable terroir. We carefully blend this handful of barrels together, then patiently age this wine for an extended period in new French oak before bottling. The nose delivers notes of holly-leaved cherry, rhubarb, whole cloves, fresh teak sawdust, and a hint of sun-warmed stones, while the layered, structured palate alludes to ripe cranberry, blood oranges, cassis, cedar box, and the slightest scintilla of iron minerality. Pair this with a fricassee of wild-foraged Chanterelles and rosemary pappardelle, duck confit, or a homemade ratatouille with a crusty baguette and some convivial company.

A blend of 6Cabernet Sauvignon, 2Cabernet Franc, and 10% Merlot, our 2015 Bouchet (in the Saint-Émilion region of Bordeaux, the name refers to Cabernet Franc) reflects our passion for producing beautifully balanced, classically-styled wines. An opaque ruby in color, the nose shows violets and tobacco leaf, while the gracefully structured palate showcases blackberries and hints of cassis and soft tannins. Pair this with a rib-eye steak, or roasted sausage penne pasta with homemade ragu sauce.

While The Brander Vinieyard has long been renowned for our Sauvignon Blancs, we are also very proud of our distinctive, classically Bordeaux-styled Cabernets. This 2014 vintage offers gorgeous, pure fruit and presents an attractive, translucent dark ruby in the glass. A nose of creme de cassis, dried sour cherry, and Madagascar vanilla bean leads into a beautifully delineated palate. This wine, a perennial favorite sourced from a vineyard just a few miles south of our estate, receives extended contact with the grape skins after crushing, and is raised entirely in stainless steel to preserve its crisp, precise character. Pale straw in color in the glass serves as entree to complex armoas of white peach, green apples, and lychee. The deliciously textured palate shows hints of lemongrass.
